about us
With 50 years of Perkins experience, the name of William Winemaster is recognized as a leader in the industry. It is therefore no wonder that in 1985 he helped to create an organization that was to become the largest Perkins Distributorship in the world. Located in Chicago, Illinois, PGL has 150,000 square feet of engineering, assembly and distribution capacity.
PGL’s foundation for growth is a comprehensive and broad range product offerings supported by a highly experienced and qualified staff of engineers and technicians. Products include both standard and custom open power units and enclosed power units, engines with hydraulic pumps and clutches, and engine power solutions with Electronic General Motors Automatic Transmissions.
Chicago has proven to be an excellent centralized location for low-cost access to supplier product and the distribution of product to customer locations. PGL has global sourcing capability and is currently sourcing from vendors in Europe, Mexico, Asia, India and China.
technical expertise
PGL utilizes flexible assembly lines that are focused on major product groupings. This allows PGL to easily shift production capacity to meet unexpected changing customer demand levels and product mix while maintaining the efficient use of trained labor. PGL also has developed efficient inline methods to support specialized product testing when required by the customer or by the application.
PGL is very proactive in throughput/lean manufacturing practices and in supporting inventory reduction programs with our customers. Some customers have been able to reduce their inventories by more than 40% through PGL supported programs that have included Just-In-Time, Kanban and pull systems based around specialized scheduling and release systems.
six sigma
What is Six Sigma? Sigma is a statistical term used to describe the amount of variation in a process. In a business or manufacturing process, the Sigma value tells you how well the process is performing or how many defects the process generates - a Six Sigma process yields 3.4 Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO). Six Sigma is also the term used for a data-driven methodology for identifying problems (defects) and driving sustainable process improvements to reduce variability and defects - the approach we are taking at PGL.Six Sigma is the necessary tool to help achieve our goals and commitments to reach the highest levels of safety, productivity, quality and customer satisfaction. In short, Six Sigma is here working for you.
